$15 Million Awarded in iPod Class Action Suit
A class action suit settlement will see up to US$15 million go to persons in the U.S. who purchased or obtained a First, Second, or Third Generation iPod on or before May 31, 2004. Owners who don’t want their battery replaced are entitled to a cash refund.
Under the settlement, owners of either a first- or second-generation model are entitled to $25 cash or $50 credit at the Apple store. iPod owners who paid Apple to repair a battery in one of the players will be entitled to up to half of that cost back. Owners of third-generation iPod models are entitled to a free replacement battery if the battery fails. The ruling came down yesterday from a San Mateo County (California) judge. The settlement affects approximately 1 million iPods. The class action lawuit’s origins centered around allegations that Apple had misled consumers concerning the life of the iPods’ batteries. Link
