Australian Court Rules Against Kazaa

The Australian courts ruled against Kazaa saying that the company knows that its software is used for piracy therefore they are “authorizing” copyright infringement. I am amazed that Kazaa lawyers didn’t ask the courts if Ford is “authorizing” drunk driving because they know that their automobiles will be misused by drunk drivers but continue to sell them anyway. So much for Kazaa having smart lawyers.

Australia's major record companies sued Kazaa's Australian owners and developers, Sharman Networks, claiming Kazaa had cost them millions of dollars in lost sales. The music industry told the court that Sharman Network licensed users to access a network it knew was being used for piracy and hence it was authorising people to infringe copyright.
