HEU Class Action BC Teachers off Hook

With a lawsuit against the Hospital Employers Union (HEU) making its way slowly through the legal system, the Canadian Taxpayers' Federation (CTF) says it won't commit to a similar lawsuit against teachers' unions for their job action.


Sara MacIntyre, provincial director for CTF, said while the organization has received a handful of calls from people saying they're interested if similar legal action is pursued against the teachers' union, it's not something the group can take on.

"Honestly, the HEU class action has tied up a significant number of resources for us right now. We don't have the resources some of these unions have," said MacIntyre. But lawyer Bruce Hallsor, who is involved with the HEU case, said last week he is collecting names of parents, vowing a similar suit against teachers will go ahead.
